Meet Alvin Nelson, World Champion Saddle Bronc Rider

by Molly Noble Bull

Alvin Nelson is a real cowboy in the true sense and an inspiration to us all. He was also the 1957 World Champion Saddle Bronc Rider.

Young men were still being drafted in 1958 when Alvin was inducted into the United States Army, and at the peak of his rodeo career, he briefly walked away in order to serve his country. Alvin was stationed in Wertheim, Germany, and he and his young wife, Kaye, lived in Germany until his military service ended.

But Alvin is not just a rodeo cowboy. He also owns and runs a cattle ranch in North Dakota.

The photograph is a phenomenal shot. That's a sure case for "right place, right time." Horse and rider sailing through the air.
Love it. And those guys are fantastic athletes.

Thanks for writing Tina and Janice. I will be interviewing Alvin Nelson next month. If you have any questions you would like to ask him, here is the place to do it.
